Blood cancer

Rumor has it that Arafat may have blood cancer.

Isn't that an euphemism for AIDS?

--==--

It turns out that there is a connection.

More speculation from the Jerusalem Post. Note that in this whole article they spend a page and a half to say nothing.

I think that tends to confirm my AIDS diagnosis.

The big hint I have seen is that no one dares to say what it is as long as he is alive. Wink, wink. Nod.

More speculation at Haaretz.

"His blood cells which should normally destroy microbes are currently destroying blood platelets," the doctor said on condition of anonymity.

The disorder could have been triggered "by an inflammation caused by a virus, a cancer or blood poisoning," he said, adding the supplementary tests could not be conducted in Arafat's Muqata headquarters.
Sounds a lot like AIDS to me.

Did I mention that France is one of the leaders in AIDS research?

The hospital Arafat is going to in France, Hopital d'Instruction des Armees de Percy, is discussed in this Haaretz piece.

Hmmm. Pasteur Institue has this to say about the Percy Hospital.

Diagnosing pneumopathies associated with HIV/AIDS and evaluating the risk of the yellow fever vaccine in HIV+ patients.

Again, one could cite an international programme from the ANRS that includes four of the IPIN's institutions (Senegal, Central African Republic, Cambodia, Vietnam-Ho Chi Minh City) with the aim of improving the algorithms for diagnosing pneumopathies associated with HIV infection. This programme which began in 2001, is coordinated in the North by the Percy Hospital in Clamart, France,
